Yorkshire Building Society – Glasgow Branch Flood Restoration
DDS has worked in partnership with Yorkshire Building Society for over 15 years, completing a wide range of commercial painting, decorating, and refurbishment projects across their UK branch network. This enduring relationship is built on consistent quality, efficient delivery, and our ability to handle complex refurbishments with minimal disruption to operations.
In early 2024, the Glasgow branch experienced a severe flood incident caused by an infrastructure failure in the local area. Within hours, the entire ground floor was submerged, resulting in significant water ingress and widespread damage to both the building fabric and operational systems.
The Challenge
The flood had an immediate impact on the branch’s ability to operate safely. Key challenges included:
Structural damage to ceilings, flooring, and internal walls.
Contamination risks from flood water affecting surfaces and materials.
Loss of essential services, including electrical supply, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
The need for a fast, compliant restoration to allow banking services to resume without extended downtime.
Yorkshire Building Society needed a contractor who could manage the entire restoration process — coordinating multiple trades, ensuring health and safety compliance, and restoring the branch to brand standards. DDS was appointed immediately due to our proven reliability and familiarity with the client’s operational requirements.
Our Approach
Our project team was deployed to site the same day to carry out a rapid assessment and create a detailed restoration programme.
1. Structural Repairs
Damaged ceilings, floors, and supporting elements were stripped out and replaced, with all works completed to current building regulations. We ensured the structure was both safe and ready for finishing trades without delays.
2. Water Damage Remediation
Flood-affected areas were thoroughly dried using industrial dehumidifiers and air movers. Contaminated materials were removed and disposed of under strict environmental and health safety protocols to prevent mould growth or future deterioration.
3. Decorative Refurbishment
Once the building was structurally sound and dry, we redecorated all walls and woodwork using high-performance, low-odour commercial coatings for durability and a clean, professional finish. Damaged floor coverings were replaced with slip-resistant, commercial-grade vinyl — ideal for high-footfall banking environments.
4. M&E Coordination
Working in close partnership with mechanical and electrical specialists, we replaced all damaged electrical wiring, data cabling, lighting systems, plumbing pipework, and HVAC units. This ensured the branch could operate safely and efficiently upon reopening.
5. Specialist Shopfitting
The customer-facing areas were fully restored with new bespoke joinery, service counters, shelving, and workstations designed to match Yorkshire Building Society’s corporate brand identity.
The Result
Through meticulous planning, clear communication, and coordinated delivery, DDS completed the full refurbishment within the agreed timeframe. The Glasgow branch reopened with zero operational delays to customer service, and the finished space met both the client’s operational needs and high visual standards.
This project demonstrated DDS’ ability to:
Manage complex, multi-trade refurbishment projects under challenging conditions.
Deliver compliant, durable finishes suitable for high-traffic commercial environments.
Maintain operational continuity for clients in the financial sector.
